Do not mount it directly next to the extractor: you would be reading air that has already dried out, giving you false reassurance.

The second front: behind the toilet and under the basin

Let’s be clear about what a sensor does not do. A humidity sensor detects, it does not fix. If the alert fires and nobody opens a window or switches on the extractor, you have a beautiful data dashboard and the same mould. Does a humidity sensor prevent mould on its own?

No. The sensor detects and alerts; what prevents mould is the action you take in response — opening a window or activating the extractor. That is why we recommend connecting it to an automatic ventilation system rather than relying on a phone notification you might see too late.

At what humidity level should I start worrying?

Above 70% sustained RH the risk begins to climb; above 80% held for several hours mould proliferates, according to CTE thresholds. The figure that actually matters is not the peak reading but how long humidity stays elevated. A spike immediately after a shower is normal; three hours at 85% is not.

Does it need Wi-Fi, and does it drain the battery quickly?

Wi-Fi models are convenient but consume more power. Low-power protocol devices (Zigbee, Bluetooth Low Energy) run for one to two years on a coin cell battery. For a bathroom, where you do not need data by the second, low-power usually wins on practicality.

Can it be installed in an already-renovated bathroom without opening walls?
